Best Practices

Build a thriving community

Expert tips and proven strategies to get the most out of Enbot and create an engaging, well-moderated Discord server.

Moderation Excellence

Keep your server safe and welcoming

Layer Your Defenses

Don't rely on a single moderation method. Combine auto-moderation, manual moderation, and community reporting for comprehensive protection.

  • Auto-Mod Primary: Enable spam, link, and profanity filters as your first line of defense
  • Human Oversight: Train moderators to handle edge cases and appeals
  • Community Reports: Enable member reporting for suspicious activity

Start Strict, Then Relax

It's easier to loosen moderation rules than to tighten them after bad habits form. Begin with strict auto-moderation filters, then adjust based on your community's needs.

Pro Tip: Enable all auto-mod filters on day one, but set actions to "Delete Message Only" initially. Monitor logs to see what gets caught, then adjust sensitivity and actions accordingly.

Document Everything with Logs

Set up a private log channel immediately. This creates an audit trail for all moderation actions and helps resolve disputes.

  • Track auto-mod triggers and false positives
  • Review moderator actions for training purposes
  • Provide evidence when handling appeals

Whitelist Trusted Roles

Prevent auto-mod from flagging your moderators and trusted members. Configure ignored roles for each filter type to avoid unnecessary friction.

Maximize Engagement

Build an active and engaged community

Balance XP Rewards

XP should feel rewarding but not encourage spam. Configure your XP system with these proven settings:

Recommended Settings

  • • 15-25 XP per message
  • • 60-second cooldown
  • • 1.5-2x XP for voice activity
  • • Disable XP in bot/spam channels

Avoid These

  • • No cooldown (encourages spam)
  • • Too high XP (levels too quickly)
  • • Too low XP (feels unrewarding)
  • • XP in all channels

Strategic Level Roles

Use level roles as milestones that unlock meaningful perks. This creates progression and keeps members engaged.

  • Level 5: "Regular" role with image embed permissions
  • Level 10: "Active Member" with access to exclusive channels
  • Level 25: "Veteran" with special hoisted role color
  • Level 50+: "Legend" status with custom permissions

Run Regular Events

Use giveaways and events to boost activity during slow periods. Schedule them consistently to build anticipation.

Event Ideas: Weekly giveaways, monthly contests, seasonal events, member milestones (1000 members), game nights, art contests, trivia competitions.

Server Organization

Create a well-structured community

Clear Channel Hierarchy

Group related channels together with descriptive category names. New members should immediately understand where to go.

Performance & Maintenance

Keep your server running smoothly

Regular Dashboard Checks

Review your dashboard weekly to monitor server health and adjust settings.

  • Check auto-mod logs for false positives
  • Review leaderboards and engagement metrics
  • Adjust XP rates based on activity levels
  • Update command permissions as roles evolve

Optimize Role Hierarchy

Ensure Enbot's role is high in the server hierarchy so it can moderate effectively. It must be above any roles it needs to manage or assign.

Periodic Cleanup

Maintain server health with regular cleanup tasks:

  • Archive inactive channels
  • Remove outdated announcements
  • Prune inactive members (with caution)
  • Update rules based on community feedback

Security & Privacy

Protect your community and data

Limit Dashboard Access

Only give "Manage Server" permissions to trusted staff. This controls who can access the dashboard and modify bot settings.

Enable Verification

Use Discord's built-in verification levels alongside auto-mod to prevent raids and spam attacks.

Recommended: Set verification level to "Medium" (verified email + 5 minutes on Discord) for most servers. Use "High" during raid attempts.

Monitor Permissions

Regularly audit role permissions and bot access. Remove permissions that aren't actively needed to minimize security risks.
